Spring Means Aqua Yoga, and Blue

Spring is here, and if you live in the north, bright colors are coming back.

Turquoise will return to your neighborhood instead of just through me on the computer screen 😉

And that diversity of color is a good thing. There's lots of research available on the impact of color on your mental health.

With aqua yoga, the bright colors we think of are blues, with winter weather blues replaced by watery blues.

Winter blue walls may be more soothing than red walls, but outdoor true blues are best.

Research has shown that even looking at a swimming pool is more relaxing than looking at a tree (and the study's was green not leafless brown).

In yoga philosophy, the yoga chakras are associated with colors. The color blue is associated with the throat chakra. Which is about your voice; speaking your truth with authenticity.

Which, if you think of in the context of spring, actually makes sense. You get to stretch out and go outside. The hills are alive, and the birds are singing, and it's an invitation for you, too.

What's your favorite spring blue?

Which shade are you looking forward to for summer?

If you want to bring all the bright colors into your yoga practice this spring, get a copy of my Chakras in Aqua Yoga class.

Vivarium Some people collect dirt from significant places. Or spoonfuls of cloudy ocean inside jars. Like amateur naturalists, they keep these treasures permanently on a shelf. Of course an amateur is simply a person who loves, who brings love to bear on a particular subject. Returning from one trip I failed to bring back a jar of anything. I stood outside my house where white stitches of snow were dissolving into the ground beneath the evergreens. An unset moon floated over the trees. If I...
